Dive into “Maritime Maverick by Wilhelmsen” and embark on a journey where strategic acumen and a commitment to responsible business are your keys to success.

The idea for this board game sprung from a desire to offer a glimpse into the multifaceted universe of Wilhelmsen, showcasing the array of fields we engage with. Designed for interaction among peers, the game also serves as a unique gift for customers, partners, and can of course be enjoyed with family. Each playthrough promises a fresh experience, encouraging players to adopt various strategies—perhaps focusing on crew management in one game and vessel ownership in another. The path you choose is yours to decide, with each decision opening new doors and opportunities.

You win by achieving the highest return on your investments. This is done by providing maritime services, or having ships on shipping routes, or both. Your ESG score (=Environmental, Social, Governance) is also crucial to your success.

The player with the highest total score at the end of the game is declared winner! The game board is a world map with ports, shipping routes, and other investment areas. Players place game cubes on the game board investment spaces. The board includes an income tracker, an ESG tracker, and a space for event cards.

How long does it take to play?

With seven event cards, you usually spend around 90 minutes including reading instructions and getting started. If you all know the game, you play for approximately 60 minutes depending on how heavy you go on tactics and making decisions.

Is this game difficult to learn?

Well, totally normal people have read the rules and started playing all by themselves, so we like to think the game is easy enough. But one of you need to read the rules – no way around that. Someone taught you how to play Monopoly too – it all starts somewhere.

Can we use more or less than seven event cards?

Sure, if you play with 10 cards for example, everyone will make more money, and you get to explore more recourse cards. Play with less than seven cards and you will find the game intense but sometimes over too soon.

Can we have more than five players?

Be as many as you like and team up. But only five colours/sides are possible.

Can I complete a cubes row by myself and get the bonus?

No, you can’t place your cubes next to each other on the game board, you need someone else’s cubes in between.

Can I buy blue and green cards in round one?

Nope, you need red cards first, and from round two and onwards you can buy blue cards. Once you own them, you can buy green ones in the following round.

Is it crucial I pick the right vessel type to place on the board?

Not really. As long as you use the correct size vessel piece, you are fine. There are two sizes, double squares and triple squares.

Can I do internal trades and haggles even though it’s not mentioned in the rules?

Sure, if you do on-the go deals with fellow players, it adds more fun to the game. A typical case is how you sell cyber or crew placements to other players. Lots of fun can happen there.

Is it really called die and not dice?

Yes, die is singular. True story.

Can players choose not to sell crew to another player?

Yes, you can haggle here if you like and not sell, or buy the slots yourself and block other players.

Is supply vessel a ship?

No, ships are marked with two or three squares and is represented in the shipping routes around the world. Supply vessels work in one spot and are handled like other non-vessel units.
